Subsidy to Agricultural Societies. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 14 April 1888

Subsidy to Agroultural Sooeties., Sir lHenry Parkes, in reply to Mr. Lyne in the Assembly onl Tulesday, said the Govermnent had not come to a decision to subsidies agricultural societies to thie oxtolnt of pound for pound. Ieo had a very strong opinion tlhat something like pressure ought to bo exercised to induce the die tricts to have larger agriciultural shows, instead of splitting them uIp nmongst a numbeor of paltry townse. lie tlhought it wuuld be very nmui better for the distriolts themselves, and for the Government to deal with tire societies in the way of sebsidies, and that tihe larger amount of prizes which could thus be offeorod would ensure tnuch better shows.
