However, now that an Erie winter is upon the campus, smokers have the cold weather to deal with. Keith Houser, a freshman, sees the policy as relatively fair. Lion Ambassadors: promoting Penn State pride by Mark Sarvis Collegian Staff Writer Behrend' s Lion Ambassadors are a dedicated group of students committed to the promotion of Penn State pride. Claiming that Penn State should be a lifetime experience, they work hard to share their spirit and pride with present students and to keep in touch with alumni. They, as "Penn State Student Alumni Corps," represent the college at special events. They act as tour guides, escorts, and hosts for new students or returning alumni. The Ambassadors work under the department of university development and relations, and they are also connected with the alumni society. They hold three spirit-raising programs each year. The first for newcoming freshman-"Be a part from the start," in the fall; the second for the benefit of all students-"Penn State pride week," which was the last week of October; and the third being the "Zero year reunion" for graduating seniors. The ambassadors also participate in...

Entertainment - A salute to rock classics Gary Nolan explores Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon " Editor's note: Critic Gary Nolan continues his examination of some of the music world's greatest contributions. This is the third installment of a fivepart series. by Gary Nolan Collegian Staff Writer When examining a _^ articular album release, several things often come to mind, music, lyrics, and overall content, to name a few. One aspect of a good album that is often taken for granted is the production. The album to bring superior production from the background to the attention of musicians everywhere was Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Production is the art of combining, mixing, and often creating sounds to yield the final sound of a recording mix. Pink Floyd's 1973 release holds "Billboard's" record for the longest time appearing on the pop charts with a stay of nearly 700 weeks. This staggering statistic signifies __pne of the most successful releases of all time. ...

Matchbox Players present: "Talk Radio" opening tonight on campus; ten performances to be given by Joe Williams Collegian Staff Writer There is an old saying in the theater that goes "A bad dress rehearsal means a good opening night". If anything went wrong with Monday night's preview of Talk Radio, it wasn't apparent. So if the old Thespians Tale is true, opening night of Talk Radio should be fantastic. "Talk Radio" centers around Barry Champlain, played by Philip Pierre, and his last radio talk show before going on national radio. The play comments on the state of American culture and the sleaze factor has infected every form of media. This has become main stream, and accepted. Pierre has been given an excellent opportunity to show off many talents from his high energy performance as Barry, to his high tech set design, to his intricate lighting and sound design. Rarely is one person given an opportunity to take on so many tasks, and carry them off so well. Performances were...

Lions roar to a 23-point victory over visiting Sports Men's basketball team defeats Canadian team in exhibition match Ryerson in 'The Pit' by John Musser Collegian Sports Editor If Sunday's exhibition game was any indication of what the '89-90 season will bring for the basketball Lions, the excitement isn't the only thing that's back. The scoring and the winning should also return. Despite a slow start, the men's hoopsters eventually wore down Ryerson Polytechnical Institute of Canada and eventually outdistanced them in the second ha lf to win, 112-89. Sophomore guard Jeff Cowan sparked the Lion's offense, nailing three three-pointers and collecting a game-high 25 points. Junior forward Rick Demski powered in 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. Randy Baughman added IS markers while Moise Pringle snared seven boards. Coaches views Basketball Coach Doug Zimmerman said he saw positive and negative aspects about his teams performance. Mark talks about the wonderful world of Christmas shopping/ / The / Missing Pieces by Mark Owens I was sitting in the kitchen a couple of days ago, eating a nutritious breakfast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Jolt Cola, which has more caffeine and sugar in one can than the USDA recommends you should consume in three billion skillion years, when my Aunt Mary started measuring my arm. This presented a slight problem, since she straightened my arm across my face to measure it and shoved my spoon up my left nostril. Aunt Marry didn't mind. I did. She measured my neck, cutting off most of the blood flow to my brain, and took other import and measurements for clothing, like my waist, chest and big toe. All of this means two things: The first is Aunt Mary doesn't know her strength with a tape measure. The second is this traditional measuring signals the start of the Christmas season, when Aunt Mary knits the traditional sweater that looks like it was made from the hair of an A...

Rob, reader agree on teaching theory but not on specifics Opinion Dear Love Rob, For a change, I agree with some of the opinions in your article this week (November 1st). Teaching at a college level would be fun, but a couple of your policies are way out of line. First of all, forget about the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Cavaliers, those are sad teams from an even sadder city. Secondly, class should not be cancelled if either one of those teams win. The only time that classes should be cancelled is the Friday before the Steelers game and the Monday after they win (well, even if they play a decent game). Also classes should be cancelled if the Pittsburgh Penguins play a good, strong game (win or lose). Automatic A's should be given out to those who wear Editorial Policy The Behrend Collegian's editorial opinion is determined by the editor, with the editor holding final responsibility. Opinions expressed in the Collegian are not necessarily those of the Behrend Coll...

Ask Louanne Dear Louanne, For almost six months now, I have been seeing a girl from Behrend. She's really special to me. I feel really comfortable around her, although every time we go out to a nice restaurant, I have trouble eating. I feel sick to my stomach, and it feels like I'll get sick if I eat or look at food. I almost always get through the salad, but after that is when it starts. Is this a psychological problem (nerves) or could there be something wrong with the salad? Signed, Hungry Dear Hungry, Actually your problem is psychophysiological, anxiety most likely. Anxiety is a common response to stressful situations, both good and bad. The primitive brain responds to perceived stress by sending messages to both the nervous system and the endocrine system. The hormones start flowing. The thyroid gland, among others, pours out thyroxin which causes butterflies in the stomach. In days of old, , 'Jie caveman could just drag his woman back to the cave by her hair, thereby ut...
