TEE FOX CHASE OF THE SEA * [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 4 February 1854

TEE FOX CHASE OF THE SEA * . The Sport of Sports ( observes Captain Hall , in his Fragments of Voyages and Travels , a most amusing and , interesting work , rei entry published , ) -ia furnished by Jacks hereditary enemy , the Shark . The lunarian , busy taking distances , crams his sextant hastily into his case ; the computer , working out his longitude , shoves his books on one side ; the marine officer abandons his eternal flute ; the doctor starts from his nap ; the purser resigns the complete book ; and every man and boy , however engaged ,- rushes on deck to see the villain die . Even the monkey , if there be oneou board , takes a vehement interest in the progress of this wild scene . I remember once observing Jaoko running backwards and forwards along the after part of the poop hammock-netting , grinning , screaming , and chattering at such a rate , that , as it was nearly oalm , he J was heard all over the decks . What s 1 J the matter with you , master Monal ! said the quar...

'"' "" "' ¦¦ ' Pedestrianism . [Newspaper Article] — New York Clipper — 4 February 1854

¦¦ Pedestrianism . WHERE IS THE NORTH STAB ? Wo announced a week . or two since that a match was being made between those celebrated pedestrians , Mickey Free and the North Star ! Wedidthink that the latter gentleman was really anxious for a match , from the conversations we have had with him at different times . Sufficient time has elapsed , however , to induce us to believe that Mickey Free has scared him off the track ! Mickey has called upon us . repeatedly of late to ascertain if we had heard from the North Star in relation to the proposed match . Wc know that Mickey offered to make a match-with him ou . his own terms , and , in fact , offered advantages which we considered entirely unnecessary . It was on the statement of the North Star that we informed our readers of the certainty of a good race . As we have heard nothing , either byletter or otherwise from him , we cannot but believe that nothing further is intended in the matter . Mickey Free is still open to run or walk an...
