YOlllNCi FARM FOLKS [Newspaper Article] — Better Farming — 1 April 1915
YOlllNCi FARM FOLKS A Letter From BUI Hillscrest Farm , April 1 , 1915 . Dear Bud : Well , I guess you think I have forgotten all about you , it s so long since I wrote you a letter . But after we went in to the auto show and had the grand blow-out in Chicago , I didn t seem to have much to tell that sounded interesting . Thinks are beginning to hump now I can tell you . Last week we had a spell of rainy weather and dad had a bunch of wood sawed up that was hauled down from the copse back of the north pasture . Then we took out a lot of the hams and bacon that had been in the smokehouse for a long time and wiped them off and sewed them up in flour sacks . I must say I don t make a very good tailor for the leg of a porker . His pants didn t look very swell . But he don t know the difference . This week we ve been piling up brush and greasing up machinery , and overhauling things in general for spring work . Some of the tiling that was put in last fall wasn t planted deep enough I gue...

Every HUDSON Owner Finds Himself In Splendid Company Today [Newspaper Article] — Better Farming — 1 May 1915
Every HUDSON Owner Finds Himself In Splendid Company Today If you went to New York you would sec on Fifth Avenue hundreds of HUDSON cars . You would see in them women of fashion and men of wealth . If you went to Washington you would see in HUDSONS men of national repute . Many senators own them , one cabinet member , and other wellknown men . So wherever you go . You will find HUDSONS owned by leaders . And nowhere will you find a finer car , a handsomer car , or a car that men more respect . Do you know what that means—to feel that your car is the class car ? To know that it proves you discriminating ? And do you know that a man ashamed of his car loses half the enjoyment of motoring ? It s More Than Pride Distinguished men , of course , like to own distinguished cars . But it is more than pride that leads big men to buy HUDSONS . These men of wealth and position are usually experienced motorists . They have driven cars for years—cars of various makes . They have learned in those ...

A Letter From the Editor [Newspaper Article] — Better Farming — 1 May 1915
A Letter From the Editor This is the corn month and this issue of Better Farming might be called the corn number . The next thirty days will see this most valuable of all our farm crops planted and whether we reach the three billion bushel mark this year will depend largely , of course , on the season , but perhaps quite as largely on the attention that is given to seeding , soil culture and most of all , to seed . It is almost humiliating to reflect that in this country , which is almost everywhere well adapted to large crops of corn , the average yield throughout the country is less than thirty bushels to the acre . This is almost a disgrace to American farming , in view of the fact that with more intelligent atten tion to both culture and seed , many of our fanners are producing year after year , 60 and 70 and 80 bushels per acre . It has been with the hope that we might aid in some definite and practical way to increase the corn yield of the subscribers to this paper , that we h...
Will This be a Dry Summer [Newspaper Article] — Better Farming — 1 May 1915
Will This be a Dry Summer REPORTS from various sections are to the effect that this has been about the driest spring we have known in this country for years . Following a fall and winter of exceptionally low precipitation , it is well to recognize that we may be approaching a season of severe dryness , if not actual drouth . But , starting now , we can protect ourselves largely against disaster by giving more than usual care to the cultivation of soil and the preservation of dust mulch by frequent tillage . It may be necessary to pursue what are known as dry farming methods , even in the so-called humid states . In this connection , it is interesting to conjecture whether there . may not be some truth after all in the old theory , or superstition , if you please , that rainfall is affected through disturbance of atmospheric currents by violent concussions . Notwithstanding the apparent failure to provoke rainfall by the use of dynamite , it is significant that in those parts of Euro...
