& ttttit & aud $ feftdw $ . THE UTILE OLD MAU . Would yon like to look at the Times , sir ? Singular trial that of Risk Allah Bey against the Daily Telegraph . The speaker was a curious little old man , cleanly dressed , cleanly shaved , with short , crisp , white hair , and a lace like a red pippin , such a face as is hardly ever seen out of this country , and even here rarely , save among flu-men- * , game-keepers , or others who are much in the open air , and at all seasons . This little—for he was very small indeed as to size—this little old gentleman -was encountered in a first class smoking carriage on the Southwestern Railway . Curious trial tbat before the Lord Chief Justice , continued the old gentleman , as if he wished to promote further conversation . * I was once tried for murder myself , —with a pleasant smile . Yes , said the little old gentleman , and ( lookingpleasanterthan ever ) very nearly hung too . I did not get off free . 1 was sentence...

AGRICDLTDRAL [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural — 5 September 1868

AGRICDLTDRAL Hbtes and Suggestions for September . The preparation ofthe soil for wheat and the sowing of this crop are the most important farm operations in September , bnt as we have enlarged on these subjects for several weeks , we will not add anything here to that which has been already written , except to remind farmers of the importance of manuring for wheat , preparingl , t _ e soil properly , procuring the best seed , cleaning and pickling it thoroughly and sowing it at the right time . -All these-things maybe done and yet the crops maybe damaged by sowing tbe seed too thick or too thin , covering the seed too shallow or too deep . . Farmers should never keep old stock of any kind , for instead of improving , and increasing the capital employed on the farm , they are deteriorating , and reducing the capital . Old horses become less useful for labor year after year , until finally they prove a dead loss in every sense of the word . It has been frequently remarked that thrift...
