The Citizen &ITUXDAY. JAXUART 18, 1S79. Important Legislation. there are three subjects that should come belore the present Legislature, which are of paramount importance and therefore deserve the most earnest attention of the members of that body. Upon the action taken upon these sub jects the future prosperity and tranquil ity of the Territory will largely de pend, and it is certain (hat the record of the various members upon them will be a matter of importance and may exert a potent influence hereafter. These subjects are: 1. The Registra tion Law; 2. The apportionment of members of the next Legislature; 3. A General Railroad Incorporation Bill. 1. In regard to the first of these, it is evident that any measure that will tend to give a full, fair and free election is worthy of support. The great danger that threatens ihe country seems to be chicanery and fraud in elections, whereby the honest voice of the ma jority is overcome by the sharp prac tice and criminality of a few. ...

The Citizen. JSA TURJ)A Y, - FEBRUARY I, 187U. A Grave Error. We print below the text of the exec totive order setting apart new lanch for the Pima and Maricopa Indians, on the Salt river. We will only say now that when the people read this order there will be proportionately more abounded and alarmed people in the region affected than have ever before existed in the United States. The order ciyes to the Indians the agricultural heart of the Territory, in eluding tne entire Salt River valley, with its towns of Tempo and Phenix and the vast extent of agricultural lands now under cultivation and al ready patented by the United States to the white owners thereof. But while this fact is astounding it is rather as suring from its enormity and absur dity. There is an egregious (not to say criminal) error somewhere. "We can assure the people that the Survey or General of the Territory will im mediately inform the Commissioner of . the Gcneial Land Office at Washing ton of what has been don...

The Citizen. SATURDAY, - FEBRUARY 8, 187a. Railroad News from an Eastern Standpoint When In "Washington, about the mid dle of January, Mr. Jolm Wasson met and had a conversation with Mr. C. P. Huntington, of the California and Ari zona railways. In reply to questions from Mr. Wasson, regarding railroad progress and the purposes of the South ern Pacific Comnanv. Mr. II. said the road would be built at the rate of one to one and a half miles per day, that being the highest speed consistent with economical construction; that the com pany had the money and material in hand to build to El Paso, and the road would be built to that point in the shortest time consistent with economy In tlic work; that he had just pur chased and forwarded 33,000 tons more of iron; that the people of Tucson might reasonably expect a completion of the road to their town during the present year, 1879.
