By II o'clock, p. m., whf n it arnveu aere, many had got tired of waiting, and the majority of the excursionists were asleep. Various estimates were made as to the number of passengers, varying from 200 to 400; there were nine sleepers of twelve sec tions each, and though some of laese had three occupants others had butone; ninecars with twenty four persons each would he two hundred and sixteen, which is probably a fair estimate. 'I here came also one hotel-car, one b:ig 5 ge-car and one fruit-car. The train changed engines here and left Monday morning at one o'clock, reaching Maricopa about ten. The sale of lots, in the de pot, began almost immediately. It seems some duubt existed as to what county the new town was in, but the auctioneer, Jeff. Shan non had provided himself with a license from each. A fine map of Mari...

Akizona Sentinel. SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 1S7H Apache Phantasm w. The conduct of the Apache In dians, of Arizona, for the past two years has been far better than could have been expected from an equal number (nearly 5,000) of ignorant people of any race on Earth. This good conduct ap pears more remarkable to any old resident of the Territory who is familiar enough with Apache history to base opinion on facts, and who has candor enough to view the situation from an Indian standpoints Despoiled of home and country; herded in upon a reservation where they are thrown into contact with other Indians regarded as mortal enemies; ofteng suffering, hunger through the broken promises of our Government to feed them : brooding over aggressions of the White man, and regarding their own hostile acts in the light of mere reprisal ; treated as pauper prisoners; brought in contact ifh nothing that may improve r body, or increase happi , . oiiiemplating the daily .d-ttion of their race ; with a joyless pre...
