Coach Florida's forecast: r Lincoln already looking to '65 league track title “The track teams seem to be improving year after year, and I believe that next year’s team will be even better than the 1964 team.” Den Frazier A-12, competing in the 120 low hurdles (13.4), tha 100 yard dash (10.2), and tha long jump (22* 1") topped the list with a total of 50% points. Second on the list was Tony Kocfainas, who set a new school record in the 440 (49.1). He accumulated 49 Vi points as ha competed in various events be- sides the 440, including tha century (10.0), High jump star, Doug Huff, came in third on the list with a total of 35% points. Tiger gymnasts end sucessful 5-2 season By Jimmy Molina Lincoln High Hie Tiger gymnasts completed n fairly successful! season, when Danny Macias competed in the city preliminations and city finals. After finishing first in the long horse and fifth in the rings in the pre-lims, Macias failed to qualify in the finals. Over the year Lincoln compiled a 5 and 2 record losing only to Garfield in a pre-season meet and to Verdugo Hills, the league dumps, in seasonal competition. Macias, Garcia named Lincoln athlete of month Seniors Danny Macias, outstanding gymnast and Tom Garcia, Class C Seniors 660 city champion, have been selected by the Athletic Council as co-athletes of the month of May at Lincoln High School Macias has competed ip gymnastics for three years at Lincoln. This year he spearheaded Lincoln's second {dace standing in the Northern League. During May Danny won 12 ot the 15 events in which he competed and amassed 70 of a possible 75 points. Dan basically is a parallel bar and ring corape ter, but occasionally Ben Padilla, gymnastic coach, used him in the long horse and horizontal bar. In addition Danny stands seventh academically in his graduating class of 225. He plana to study dentistry. Democrates win state high school track title SPORTS Coach Andy Bakjian's Jefferson Democrats more than upheld the prestige of Los Angeles City high school track and field in the 46th annual California State meet last Friday arid Saturday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Jefferson returned to the top of the state’s prep track ladder by tying Long Beach Polytechnic for first place in the team scoring .each having 13 points prior to a review of finish films Monday morning. Jeff had previously won the state meet seven times (1937-49-50-51-52-56-62) and it marked the 23rd meet in which a city team had won or tied for the championship. City trackpters scored a collective total of 29 points, including a first, second, three thirds, four fourths, and three fifth places. Cal State five enter national golf finals Five talented golfers will represent California State College at Los Angeles in the 67th Annual National Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Championships at the Broadmoor Country Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 15-20. Golf coach Rod Faurot has selected captain Dick Ferry, Vic Hayek and Jerry Hedding as positive entrees and will pick two from th threesome of Jim Petralia, Jack Hollis and Joe Diaz to fill out Cai State LA’s five-man team. This year marks the first time that Cal State at Los Angeles will send a maximum number of five men to compete for the team championship. In last year’s NCAA competition Ferry made it into the quarter-finals and finished the tournament tied for ninth place.
