THE EDITOR'S DIARY. [Newspaper Article] — Sausalito News — 10 September 1885

THE EDITOR'S DIARY. San Rafael, Sept. 1, 1885. Dear Editor News: — Will you permit me to introduce myself as a correspondent of your excellent paper? In furnishing this communication I am not actuated by any literary vanity but simply and pureIy because I desire to assist you in labors which I can easily imagine are as arduous as they are laudible and if a few sketches from my pen will bestow any additional interest upon the News I shall deem myself amply compensated. Having occasion to visit San Francisco one day last week I called at the office of one of the leading journals to see my friend Editor B____ . While awaiting that gentleman's leisure I amused myseIf by looking over some volumns scattered upon desk and tables throughout the room. While thus employed I spied a green leather bound volumn of important appearance lying under some miscellaneous papers and with the natural curiosity of a woman I immediately picked it up, opened and read, ''Diary." Yes, so it proved to be, the...

YACHTING. [Newspaper Article] — Sausalito News — 10 September 1885

YACHTING. The Pacific Yacht Club held its annual Fall regatta yesterday afternoon. With the exception of the fog the day was very good and the race was sailed more on the merits of the boats than any previous race for years. The saucy "Nellie" carried off the honors winning the first prize for the first class, and the champiob flag from the Lurline for 1885, by 2 minutes and 44 seconds. The Lurline beat the Nellie in actual sailing but the allowance in favor of the latter was 11 minutes, 53 seconds, and for the Fleur de Lis 9 minutes and 32 seconds. The Lurline won second prize for best time aud the Fleur de Lis ranked third in the first class. In the second class the Annie took first and the Rambler second prize, the Thetis coming in third. All the boats did well, but the Fleur de Lis lost an advantage by sailing in the channel on the return while the Lurline and Nellie hugged the shore which if enjoyed, might have given her the champion flag. The tug Alert was loaned by Spreckels ...
