Local Thursday, June 1, 2006 - THE SACHSE NEWS - Section A - Page 5 Silver Scene by Dixie Dickson, Senior Center Coordinator It is nice to be back. Six-Seven weeks seems like a life time when you like people as well as I do. I am still not walking very well, but that leaves room for improvement. Dixie Dickson I do trust you all had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend with family or friends. As you know we went back to our home town, El Dorado, Kan., and celebrated our 50th wed- ding anniversary with an open house that received over 2(X) people. So many old friends and not nearly enough lime to talk to each long enough. Our granddaughter planned and hosted the whole thing and did a wonderful job. While we were gone, of course things went on at the center as usual. The whole group went to "Mayfair" at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas and Anna Morris won a door prizes. We were closed on Monday, but back in full swing on Tuesday. Wednesday a full bus load went to Crandal! to dine at th...

- Thursday, 1,2006 m ■ Football season will be here sooner than you think to normalcy in the Red River War, with the Sooners running rampant over the Longhoms? Golf: Last, but not least, we have a game in which most of the partic- ipants (male and female) look as though they've graduated from the Nate Newton School of Physical Fitness. Simply put, if Tiger Woods is in the hunt on the last day, I'm watch- ing. If not, I'm doing something else. I will say this about golf, it's the one activity where a person can dress in their pajamas, spend four to five hours a day in front of a gallery of onlookers, and nobody will say a thing. Of course, all of this is designed to occupy one's time until high school football reappears. The king of Texas athletics will be here sooner than we think. However, don't fret, the long humid Texas summer doesn't mean you'll be stuck inside with nothing to watch. There's plenty of viewing. Just remember stay cool and don't take any of it too seriously. I don...

Wylie Soccer Pirates, Lady Pirates kick up more awards Senior players earn regional, state honors All-state selections are taken from the all-region team, as the top two vote getters at each position, are automatically placed on the all- state team. The exception is goalie, where only the top vote getter is selected. "This is the first time Wylie girls have had a player on all-state," head girls coach Jeffrey Kear said. Speaking of all three girls, Kear said, "They are great players and they played on a great team." For the Lady Pirates, it was just another milestone in a groundbreak- ing season, as the team won the dis- trict crown, dominated the 14-4A all-district team selections, and advanced to the regional finals in the playoffs. It was there the Lady Pirates sea- son ended at the hands of Highland Park, a team they had defeated twice during the regular season. Head boys' coach, George Velten, said Wymer is in the record books as Wylie's all-time leader in assists. He was named...
