KK1DAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1919 Local and 6eheral At a meeting of ladies held at the Presbyteiiati Church last Wed nesday afternoon stroug committees were formed to make all necessary arrangements for holding the Annual Fair and Xmas Tree. The dato selected is Saturday, December 13th. The Osborne well, a watering place at the north end of the shire, was rendered ineffective at a criti cal time for stockowuers by a breakdown of the windmill. Coun cillors pressed the urgency of im mediate repair, as the country round about was practically water less, whilst a mob of 2000 cattle was reported to be travelling to ward the well. JlrH. Bannenuan, of Newport (Men.) writes:—"Mo-e than 10 years'ago, if setting alienor liens, my mother selected the male from the leimile and the number •pro'luecd corresponded with the number sbe required of either sex. I have do: e the same myself witli unfailing accuracy, and the method is us follows: ''Hold the egg with three fingers of the left ban* in the sun or close to an electric or gas light. Shade the end of the egg with the right hand, and look for the air space or 'selling' (a dark watery spot larger than a tlireep-.m-y-piece); if this is found 011 the top it is a male, but if lower down the side it is a female egg. Charlie Doon, the purchaser at ,£10 of 1950 dead sheep at the Tu raut railway station, made a losing deal.
