Arthur Page was summoned by Ser geant Hehir for neglecting to contribute to the support of his child in the schools. The defendant applied for a remand with the intention of paying up. His request was acceded to. VAGRANCY. Nellie Colville, chargel as above in connection With a recent case of alleged crimnal assault, was further remanded for seven days. )IATRItIONIAL CASE. TUORSPAY, Oct. 8. Before Dr. Lloyd (chairman), and Messrs Bindon and Wylie, Js.P. LARCENSY. Frank Fulleron was charged aS above. James Cutts, in the employ of Mr R. L. Young, said that on the 5th he saw pris?ner ,,xamining ..snnm hats outside Mr Young's shp in Errol-street, and subsequently he picked one up and ran away. Witness followed and caught him, and gave him in charge. In answer to the Bench, prisoner said he was drunk. He was remanded to gaol till Monday. VAGRANCY. Martin Carlin was charged with being a vagrant, lie was found in an empty house, and was apparently of weak mind. He had a sister in Murchison, but shs was too poor to keep him. It appeared he had been in gaol before on a similar charge. Defendant was remanded for six hours with a view of giving the police an opportunity of arranging for his transfer to Murchison. LARCENY. TEMPERANCE LEAGUE OF THE CROSS. TnHENorth and West Melbourneo branch of the above held a very enjoyable fruit soiree in St Mary's schoolroom on Friday evening. Tile proceedings opened with a few dacces, after which the large asosem blnge sat down for refreshments. Tunnsnay, Oct. 15. Before Dr. Lloyd (chairman),and Messrs Wylie, Barwise, and Bindon, Js.P. A BATCH. May Bowles (keeping a. disorderly house in Alfred-street, Hothnam Hill). Margaret Bowles and Lily Connell, vagrants. Florence Bowles and Chris tina Bowles, neglected children. These defendants -were charged--a above. Constable Finlayson said that on the 12th, lie and Constables Moylan and Nelson went to the prisoners' house, and arrested them. The previous Sunday there was a complaint of assault and robbery in the house. Bowles, senior, kept a house which was the resort of thieves and bad characters. She sent the children out begging, and she drank the money. The house was also a low class brothel. The prisoner Lily Con nell was found one mmrning by witness sleeping in a closet. She was known at Hotham Hill as "Trilby," and was 16 years of age. There was no furniture or food in the house, and the bed was a mass of rags.
