SHIRE SEVERANCE. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 1 September 1881

SHIRE SEVERANCE. Referring to this subject, a corres pondent, writing from South Warra gul, after traversing at considerable length a good deal of the ground that has been dwelt upon in our columns from time to time, concludes thus: "Though loth to trouble you further on this subject, r must crave ydur in dulgence to ask a question respecting the deputation on the 24th instant. Speaking for my neighbors, as well as myself, I may say that we do not ex pect lengthy reports of matters which take place on the day prior to your publication day, and on the severance question, as well as other subjects in which we are interested, your valuable and consistent support is duly appre ciated, the proof of which, if I. may judge from the number of yourpapers which circulate hereabouts, is extended to you in a manner quite as satisfac tory as votes of thanks at public meet ings. The question I desire to ask is -Was your Drouin contemporary's lengthy report of the deputation a fair and correct one...

OBSERVATIONS FROM THE SOUTH. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 1 September 1881

JBSERVATIONS FROM THE SOUTH. -4-----. BY A SOUTuERNER. Wars and rumors of wars-strife and tumult, have, during the past twelremonth, more or less prevailed amongst all the four shires in theelec torate of South Gippsland. Now, however, that the first stone of the shire Hall has been "well and truly 'aid at Traralon, it is to be presumed that the parochial politics of that shire will, for a time, become quiescent, and after the recent elections, that peace (and let us hope "progress and pros perity'" will probably reign predomi nant throughout the regions of Nar racan. Buln Boln is, however, not the only shire in which things remain unsettled. ffairs in -Alberton.have got into a state that cannot be des cribed as otherwise than "mixed." The councillors of last year, in an un fortunate moment, got entangled in a discussion on "law points," and the wrangling lasted so long that the last day for giving the necessary notices for the annual August elections passed by before a decision was...
