CARRIER VERSUS RAILWAY. [Newspaper Article] — Penshurst Free Press — 6 November 1915

CARRIER VERSUS RAILWAY. Since the alterations curtailing the railway service, some thought has been given by local business men to the system of transport of goods that was in vogue years ago-by means of carriers' waggons from Port Fairy. With the advent of a complete rail way service, this method was super seded, but an experiment tried by Mr Chesswas duiing the week has proved that the antiquated system mightJbe resumed with satisfaction. A wagfei carrying wool to Port Fairy was com missioned to bring a load of good from the blot on the return, and delivered them in Mr Chesswass's yard in the time taken to land them at the station by railway, thus obviating the necessity of portage and the loading necessary to bring the goods on to the premises.
