Greensborough Tennis Club. OPENING OF THE NEW COURT. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 30 January 1915

Greensborough Tennis Club. OPENING OF THE NEW COURT, (From Our Correspondent). In the presence of a large gather inig and favored by almost ideal weather conditions, the newly formed Greensborough tennis club's court was on Saturday last formally opened by Cr J. S. White. SAlthough fairly representative. one missed the familiar faces of many residents who in the past have always identified themselves with any movement likely to advance and beniefit the district. Their absence was no doubt due to the fact that adinission to this particular function wasby invitation card. This, in the face of a comprehensive canvass for peiuniary assistance, doubtless alien ated a deal of interest. The tennis club committee would do well to remember that in a democratic com munity and in connection with a movement solicitfng public support a more comprehensive scheme of invitations might have been adopted. Cr White, who was received with cheers, said that it afforded him great pleasure to be present a...

BOWLS. IVANHOE RECREATION AS0SO. CIATION. (By Sir Francis.) MATCH AGAINST FAIRFIELD. On account of the single-handed match n the Victorian Bowling Associastion there were no matches last Saturday, but last Monday three rinks of Ivanhoe had a game on the beautiful grounds at Fairfield. I was not able to be present, but from a friend I leard that it proved a remarkably close match. In the ab sence of H. Oakes, McNeill, his third man took command of a rink, the other skippers being Dr Adams and Cr F. Bryaist, MoNeill was the best winner, and the Dr finished ahead also. Whoen Dr Adam and McNeill had finished Bryant had two ends to go, and Ivanhoe were one down. In the second last end one more was scored against Ivanhoe. With the last end to go, Ivanhoe re quired three to win and two to tie. Bryant's rink scored the necessary three, which left Ivanhoe winners by 1 point, The match was much enjoyec hy both sides.
