SIIRAT NOTES (By Our Own Correspondent) The Aozac Day Commemoration Meeting in Surat was well-attend ed by returned soldiers and town and district residents, who as sembled at the Soldiers' Memorial Ball la the main street. Hymns and songs appropriate to the occasion were rendered by the school children, and addresses were delivered by Cr. Jas. McCormack and the Rev. A. L. Gillespie. A number of wreaths were laid on the memorial by relatives and friends of those who madc the supreme sacri fice. The meeting was conducted with the solemnity befitting Anzac Day. Prior to the public meeting the un veiling of the new Honour Board in the Shire Hall for the Warroo Shire was carried out by Colonel C. Fortes eue, of Toowoomba, who came specially to perform the ceremony. The Chairman of the Council (fr. Jas. McCormack) presided, and his address to the gathering was respond ed to by Mr. J. 8. LADIES BOWLS Wednesday was a very special day lor Roma bowling ladles as Mitchell sent a team of eight to compete against them. Despite tlie threat of a downpour there was an excellent day's play and Roma found the Mitchell team exceed ingly good company. At afternoon tea Roma president, Mrs. Feather 'and vice president Mrs. Cooke made speeches of wel come to the visitors, Mrs. Rogencamp, the Mitchell president, responding on behalf of her team. She also told of a special cup, donated by Mitchell, which will be competed for by CiiarleviUe, Roma and .Mitchell players. The competition will run for seven years, the winners each time taking the cup to their home town. Finally the team with most wins to Its credit, will possess the cup. Of the 1680 cattle yarded, 1496 were Bold, averaging £13/11/6 a head. The cattle comprised mainly Hereford and Hereford cross. Approximately 500 head were told to meatworks, the principal buyer being T. A. .Field Wholesale Meats. Other ineatwQrks operating were Q.M.I'J., Wal laugarra Meatworku and Bedbank. The highest price paid was £26/5/ for one bullock, while a pea of 10 sold at £21/12/6 a head. The principal stores buyers were T. A. Field and Queensland Estates. High est .price paid for stores was £11 a head for 50 Possession Creek Shorthorn steers.

k FALL FROM HORSE Leslie Lingard, 16, of Yuleba, died In the Roma. Hospital on Wed nesday night following Injuries re ceived when be fell and was drag ged by his horse while mustering near Surat on Wednesday morning. A member of a well known Yuleba family, hie funeral will be held to-day. The lad was taken to the Surat Hos pital and then rushed to the Roma District Hospital.
