THE "SUR 'EYFEES"QUESTIOi We have pleasure in publishing the following information: Recently the attention of the Minis ter of Lands has been directed to alleged grievances in connection with the Fees charged for surveying land. First -It is alleged that the charges for permanent surveys of land intended to be alienated from the Crown have been increased, as compared with for lser charges. Second. Thatthe concessions agreed to by the last Parliament in connection with surveys of land under the leasing clauses of the Act ha:ve'ssn been car ried out. These concessions having been under stood to include a reduced scale, as compared with permanent sur reys, together with a system of receiving, payments in annual instalments with the rents; and, Third.-That surveys were being made compulsory upon land taken up under the 67th section. The Minister has obtained from` Mr Black, Surveyor-General, a report, in which it is stated First.-That the average scale of fees for Permanent Surveys has ...
