Opening of St. Joseph's Home, Surrey Hills. Theo Roman Catholic portion of the comununity in this district have, dur. ing the last year, had under their con sideration the erection of commodious buildings in Surrey hills which could be used as a home for entirely desti tute children. The task was by no means ani easy one to accomplish, and thero were many difficulties in the way that had to he overcome. Blefore the home could be got into working order in outlay in land, buildings, and furniture, amounting in round numbers to about .C2000 had to be undertaken; but the directors were fully convinced that the benevolent work such an institution would be able to accomplish would justify them in iucurring great responsibilities. There were hundreds of homeless little children in the metropolis who could be rescused and cared for, and who would doubtless, as they grew u}p to maturity, become respectable members of the community, if only such a place could be successfully established in on...
