The Murray Waters. THE DRAFT AGREEMENT. [Newspaper Article] — Nathalia Herald and Picola, Narioka, Kotupna and Moira Advertiser — 13 October 1914

The Murray Waters. the'£)kaft agreement. . • Writing in the "Australasian" of the 22nd ult., Herbet Anthony Win ton, 197 Collins-street, says: — The prolonged dry spell in the ■ north is seriously accentuating the Murray River water problem, and is * emphasising the urgency of an early ratification of the long-standing draft argeement. v As the difficulty in the way-uf settle " merit in the past has been the : . enormous e >st involved, the'offer by .the Common wealth Ministry to con tiibute £1,000,000 is regarded as re moving this obstacle. The necessity of storage works being constructed on the river, which has been admitted ever since settle ment took place, has become so . urgent of recent years that any further delay in their construction " will be disastrous.^ Each dry spell now illustrates the' narrow margin upon which the irrigation settle ments watered from the Murray are working, and how uncertain will be the position when those settlements are drawing to I heir full ca...

Specialist Explains Cause of Stomach Trouble. VALUABLE ADVICE TO SUFFERERS. [Newspaper Article] — Nathalia Herald and Picola, Narioka, Kotupna and Moira Advertiser — 13 October 1914

Specialist Explains Cause of Stomach Trouble. ♦ VALUABLE ^DVICE TO • . SUFFERERS. • " There are many different forms of stomach trouble;'1 said a well known specialist recently, "but prac tically all are traceable to excessive acidity and food fermentation. That is \yhy the results obtained from the use of diugs are usually so disap pointing, Admitting fermentation and consequent acidity of. the food contents to be the underlying cause, of most forms of indigestion, it naturally follows that the use of a reliable antacid, such as the pure bisurated magnesia which is so fre quently prescribed by physicians, will produce better results than any known drug or.combination of drugs.' Accordingly I almost invariably ad vise those who complain of digestive trouble to get s')me bisurated mag nesia' (note the name carefully, as other forms are unsuitable for this pui-posfe,) from their chemist, and take half a teaspoonful of the powder, or tvvo Strain compressed tablets, with a little water ...

Game Laws. QUAIL AND DUCK. IMPORTANT CHANGES. [Newspaper Article] — Nathalia Herald and Picola, Narioka, Kotupna and Moira Advertiser — 13 October 1914

liame Laws. QUAIL AND DUCK. IMPORTANT CHANGES. !' In view of the fact that certain game is yearly becoming scarcer on the lakes in Victoria, the Acting Director of the Fisheries and Game ; department, Mr Fi.' Lewis, last week stated that the Government h;td decided to curtail the seasons regarding quail and wild duck. This a.ction is to be taken as the result of observations -of the haunts of these birds, extending over some years, and concluding in February and March last. It has been found that the birds are decreasing in number through various causes, some of them known and some of them merely-conjectured, and it is evident that drastic protection is needed to ensure them opportunities of breed ing. The proposals are;—s i. To have no open season for wild ducks during 1915; the seasons for 1916 and 19x7 to be approxi mately the same as for this year, and 1918 to be again closed absolu tely and so on, every third year be ing an absolute close season —that is, of course, for as long...
