The Song Book Contest . As surely as their songs are a powerful factor in moulding the sentiments of a nation , do college songs wield a mighty influence over the young men who sing them . The songs of Alma Mater will-be remembered in after life when much of the knowledge we gain has been driven out by business cares The senior singing at Princeton on the steps of old Nassau Hall is one of the most beautiful features of life at that great university , and none can deny that every senior who sits with his companions singing the songs which four years of college life have made familiar to him , feels a strong bond between him and his college and all the rest of her sons . It is just this bond that has made Princeton pre-eminent in college spirit and foremost in college life . It is with a realization of this fact that efforts have been made lately to secure songs that are distinctly Gettysburg songs , and to publish in time a Gettysburg College Song-Book . With a view to furthering th...

The 1900 _Speetfum . The Juniors , as a class , arc working hard to make the Spectrum not only d success as a class work but an honor to Gettysburg . They arc prosing their loyalty to 1900 by heartily supporting the staff both with words of encouragement and by readiness to do whatever is requested . The staff itself , so far as unanimity and hard work are concerned , could not be better . The principal editors , Clare and Weigle , have succeeded in obtaining for the Spectrum , material which , on account of its originality and careful pieparation , insures success from a literary standpoint . As for the financial success of the Spectrum , Imler and Hamacher , by hard work and wise management have long ago won the confidence of 00 . We have referred to the originality of the Spectrum material . _Jilavo a Entertainment . The largest audience that was seen in Brua Chapel for years , greeted Maro , the eminent prestidigitateur , last Monday evening . Everybody came expecting an evenings entertainment of mystery and melody and no one was disappointed . Seldom do we meet so versatile a genius as Maro ; for , though he is especially proficient in legerdemain and the occult sciences , his audience was undecided whether it is in magic , music or art that he excels . The first part of the programme was full of bewilderment and humorous situations such as flowers _innumerable growing in midair , a block of wood visible to the audience changing to an apple and vice versa , silver by the handfulls being drawn from the nostrils and ears of individuals in the audience ; from a small handkerchief were produced hundreds of yards of ribbon which were hurled over the heads of the mystified audience and , Irom this armful of ribbon was produced in the twinkling of an eye , a beautiful Japane...

The Ottumujaa . Probably never before have the students and people of Gettysburg been furnished with a scries of such excellent treats along the line of public entertainment as have been provided by the Lecture Course Committee of the Y . ( M < VRO E V 1 ER _IAINMEN I— Continued from | ns = » 55 ) Another part of the program showed the entertainer s skill in music and art . Scarcely less wonderful than his magical performances were his musical productions on stringed instruments His playing on his favorite instrument of but one string , the Syrian gogglepeg , was especially appreciated by the audience .
