"Fighting Bob," fleet Commander IN view of the present d dlicate sit u nation in the relations between the United States and Japan the assignment of Rear Admiral Rob ley D. Evans to command the fleet that is to cruise in the Pacific means a high compliment to that offieer and an expression of much confidqence in his discretion and ability. Admiral Evans has had more experience as a fleet commander than any other rear ad miral on the active list. He is familiar with conditions in Pacific waters, as he was commander-in-chief of the Asiatic fleet for two years, a part of this serv Ice being during the period of the Rus so-Japanese war. "Fighting Bob" has earned his son briquet. He was one of the heroes of the attacks on Fort Fisher in the civil war, receiving in that engagement four severe rifle shot wounds. BLANTON'S RESIGNATION. Prof. Blanton has resigned and by this act he has relieved the School Board of embarrassment and led the great majority, if not all, of the patrons of the public schools and their friends and sympathizers to rejoicing. By stepping down and out, the irri tant which provoked an undesirable and regretable situation, has been removed. The friction, the antagonism, and finally the open rebellion against Prof. Blanton was not spontaneous. Its inten sity was the result of a series of little ness and of arrogance in manners in the display and in the exercise of his authority. It may be said that Prof....
