I saw, says u Paris letter, a fac simile of an enterprise commenced by the province of Algeria, vlikh bids fair to rovolutio.iio a large portion ot the world. It was the representation in miniature of the third plantation of 10,0,10 palm trees which had been made since 1850-81 in the desert of t-ahara as ar tificial o.ises on the lines of- the principal routes of travel. These have all been perfectly buccossful. The trees have grown niagniflciently and become a source of refresh ment aud rest, which put aside the risks and dangers of the deserts. The system is based upon the pro duction of water from arte.-ian wells, conducted through the ileitis in shal low ditches, which nourish the roots of trees and plauts, and change the plain of sand into a garden of shade and verdure.
