EARTHQUAKE. — Things terrestial had a jolly shaking up in this meridian yesterday. We reckon old Mother Earth was laughing at something, maybe at the funny things done at the Court House on Wednesday night. It was just a friendly shake, however. It was a conservative motion, frotn North to South —a move towards making a kindly mixture of the good folks on both sides of the sectional line. It did much good service. It set people to talking. The ladies, heaven shield and protect them, were invested with a sense of sociability thereby. Old terra firma just gave us this admonitory shake byway of a reminder that we were all common tenants of one lone member of the planetary system. A sense of fellow feeling was awakened ihat made everybody wondrous kind. We hear that our Sacramento neighbors had their memories jogged at the same time. Some of our good people got frightened, and ran out of doors, as tliey did over in Yuba City. Everybody laughed about the shake, though, just as human natu...

About Electing City Officer*. [Newspaper Article] — Marysville Daily Appeal — 16 March 1860

About Electing City Officer*. The Democracy of this city have presented a ticket, composed in the main of good men, some of whom are worthy to fill the positions to which they have been nominated. But if they are to be elected, it should not be for the simple reason that they are faithful members of the Democratic organization. What has the Kansas question, or the Charleston platform, that is to be, to do with the grading and keeping in repair of our streets, the collection of our city revenue, the regulation of our Fire Department or the control of our chain gang? What has the Dred Scott decision to do with the administration of justice in our Recorder's court? Marysville cannot alford to involve herself in a controversy about national politics while the conduct of her own business affairs demands her attei.t'on. Her true and only justifiable political course is to make selections of the best men, of all parties, to take control of her affairs. Neither the qualification of being an...
