New places for old faces is new olan for modernization [Newspaper Article] — El Sereno Star — 11 June 1964
New places for old faces is new olan for modernization “New Faces for Old Places” is the theme of a campaign of home modernization which may well capture the imagination of many a home owner who has tired of the old face of his home. A group of young, imaginative Portland, Oregon, architects accepted a commission from the West Coast Lumbermen’s Association to design new faces for a score of typically sound and sturdy homes which needed a face lifting. What these young men created In the project was a whole new series of interesting and modern new home faces which can be applied to most older style homes. Bungalows seem to lend themselves especially to this face lifting, and several examples of bungalow remodeling appear in a fascinating free 12page booklet called "New Faces for Old Places” which will be sent without cost to anyone interested. Merely write to West Coast Lumbermen’s Association, 1410 S.W. Morrison St, Portland 5, Oregon, and a booklet will be mailed to you. The remode...
Patio booklet tells of decks [Newspaper Article] — El Sereno Star — 11 June 1964
Patio booklet tells of decks Plan on moving outdoors this summer? Where will you sit? —on the ground? It’s so easy to build a lounging deck where the whole family can have a central outdoor enjoyment center. • Actually, building a deck is no chore lor a good carpenter and you can design your own floor plan, or if you can get an architect, if you plan extensive building. \ ' If you design your own deck, you should plan for good foundation piers, with six-by-six posts for support. Then you need a good framework to support the floor, and this should probably be of 2x12 fir timbers. The deck offers you plenty of chance for originality. You can build it out of 2x4s or 2x6s. You can lay the 2x4s flat or you can set them on edge. In any case, you must be sure to leave a thin space between each floor board to allow for water runoff. You can make different patterns with your floor boards, like herringbone weave, boxed squares, diagonal pattern. All of these you will find in the new free book...

Hydrangeas in all colors for dynamic garden accent Dynamic garden accents can be yours if you see the many varieties of the hydrangea now at your local nursery displaying the emblem of the California Association of Nurserymen. Your nurseryman will help you in selecting the type suited to your particular garden needs and in the color which will give that added lift to your other plants and shrubs.
