As a per son enters college tor the tirst time it is seldom that he thinks of the real advantages that may be gained through the channels of higher edu cation. As the four years o. scholastic life slip rapidly by it is seldom that he gives thought to qualities an educated man should possess. In one picture we have the student who conscientiously devotes himself to the study of tests and assigned lessons with one purpose of conquering all that is outlined for him along a special course. On the other hand we have the picture of a student who during his four years of training becomes lost in ...

The world series Is on with the homers com- ing in. Between the scries and the football broadcast the afternoon should be quite entertaining. Some very vivid announcing is coming through. The time Is up and the student poll for the title of best swing band between Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman is closed. Of course the Piper could not see everyone but according to those he could see Artie Shaw won the contest with a 60 per cent major- ity of the votes. The voters were not picked; the students were asked at random to give their opinions. In that manner the con- test was conducted. One surprising feature the Piper discovered while conducting the poll was the lack of knowledge concerning the two bands. They in c two of the most popular bands on the air. This can suggest only one thing to the Piper; that ...

Thursday October 26 1939 Page 2 Yellow Jacket Editorial Page HOn the LeVel WHS" BEtS EDITORIAL COMMENT Fritz Kreisler the great violinist recently stated that he was sorry for the young people of today because "there is no romanticism for them." He observed "from the start they are face to face with stern necessities leaving no time for the foolish little romantic things we did when I was younger." Fritz Kreisler is Mistaken About Today's Youth an interviewer for a bit of publicity. The same line of bush- wah is being dinned into our ears and eyes day after day from all directions except from the youth itself but from aging ex-romanticists like Kreisler who have seen their own youth go vanishing and imagine all youth is dead. In fact we would go so far as to criticize condemn and feel sorry for those decrepid individuals who are continually bemoaning and bewailing the fact that "the good old days are gone forever." We agree that for that type of individuals they are gone and gone fo...
