Thursday, September 18,1947 SOUTHWESTERN TIMES Page 5 Presbyterian Church Opens Fall Program, Plans New Building St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church last week began its fall program with a full attendance at the five circle meetings of the women's auxiliary which met for the first time since June. Plans perfected at the meetings as fund raising activities include a waste paper drive, sponsored by the Purcell Bible Class, and a country fair to be sponsored by the women's auxiliary October 24 at the West University Community House. Both projects are expected to yield substantial funds for the church building fund which is cur- rently being emphasized in the expectation of starting construc- tion this winter. Rev. Page 14 SOUTHWESTERN TIMES Thursday, September 18,1947 Museum To Show Fine Collection Of Historic Rooms In Miniature Comparable to the Queen's Doll House in Enplane! and to Colleen Moore's well - known Lilliputian castle are the 37 diminutive rooms known as the Thorne American Rooms in Miniature which will go on view at the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston Sunday and re- main through December 28. On loan from the Art Institute of Chicago, the rooms were created under the supervision of Mrs. James Ward Thorne and were first shown at the Chicago World's Fair of 1937. Scaled one inch to one foot, the models trace the his- tory of American interior decora- tion from 1675 to the present day. Some of the rooms are reproduc- tions from actual houses taken from the country's finest old man- sions such as the west parlor of "Mount Vernon," the entrance hall of Andrew Jackson's "Hermitage" DR.
