When General Motors lloldens Ltd. obtains six hundred workers for its Fishermen's Bend plant and several hundred more for its Adelaide works, production of tlie first Australian car will get under way. The Compuny is . calling for skilled tradesmen and also unskilled worker?, whom it is prepared to train if it gets them. The new Aus tralian car should be on sale to the pub lic late this year. The bodywm!: will be made in South Australia and all other components at Fishermen's Bend: where there is a new factory with 120,000 square feet' of Hoor space and a completely mechanised foundry, claimed as the most modern in the. southern hemisphere. By July it is hoped the pilot production of twelve units of the new car will begin. The report covering all its aspects is now being discussed by the Council but a preliminary statement has outlined the scheme. Duties to be undertaken or expanded by the Coun cil under this project include the care of mothers and young children, mid wifery, home nursing and health visit ing services, domestic help aud the pre vention of ilmess. Austi;als and Rovers will play off for the pteniiership honors on the Gerald ton Recreation Ground and Towns and Railways will contest a game for the minor pennant at Queen's Park. As only one point separated Austfals and Rovers on the premiership list a close and interesting game might be expected to decide the holders of the cup for the next twelve months. Railways have shown such improvement lately that Towns will have to look to their laurels in the game for the minor pennant. Both games will be restricted to two day's play and will be decided on the first innings if necessary.
