On Saturday night a very welcome changa took plase in the weather, a drizzling rain setting in and finally coming down in heavier showets. The fall registered in Hilliton totalled 110 ? ? ? Q po:.nts, but in other parts as much as 1 \ inches fell. Since the change, the weather has been very genial and already a tinge of green is showing on the flats about the town, while further out and in the more sheltered country the grass is coming on finely. Though not nearly enough for all requirements the rain has done a lot ot good, en abling the farmers to get on with their ploughing, and giving householders a a supply of good water. The rain was pretty general over a large part of the colony, but the records are not available at the local post-of...

The Sports. [Newspaper Article] — The Hillston Spectator and Lachlan River Advertiser — 8 April 1899

The Snorts. Whatever features of the programme may have suffered in comparison with those vf previous years, there was certainly no lack of interest in ttiat portion devoted to the sports, as tbe nominations received for the Sheffield Handicap, Hurdle Race, and one-mile and two-milo bicycle races fully proved, viz. 58. The apoearance of the handicaps (its is always th6 casi-) provoked some criticism, but the finishes in the differ ent heats aud the finals proved the handi cappers to have had a better knowledge of the game than those who insisted thai this or that competitor was tht own in. The public fancy for the former eveut was last year's winner, J. H. Nicholson, who won on the 5 yards' m...
