EttUUUgi T ýC: otSuong UUI lltiluif Aw\ake I Ailse I Or be for ever fallen I MILTce. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 1887. WE do not suppose that the alloca tion of the prospecting grant will please everybody, but -there is, at any rate, a sprinkling of the State bounty in many parcels. The sum of £100 seoems to be the smallest, the line of descent being drawn there for all the districts, and £1000 is the top largess. But only three companies got that stir -namely, Smeaton Reserve in the Ballarat district, New Darlington at Stawell, and Jubilee Alluvial, Gipps land. The largest gifts - in this district are to the Beechworth Shire Council,. for boring Stony Creek, Ovens River, and Bowman's Forest, and Howqua Shire Council, each receiving t 700. The Yackandaudah Shire 'Council is also among the lucky ones, w?itls £600, while North Ovens Council ge". £650. All the councils applying app?ar to have been very successful. Thiskhould be a hint to our Vodonga Shire bouncil.to wake up, and endeavor to o...
