LAKE MACQUARIE [Newspaper Article] — The Singleton Argus and Upper Hunter General Advocate — 6 January 1875

LAKE MACQUARIE had its votaries on New Year's day, for several picnic parties started at an early hour to spend the day. Independent of this there were numerous other picnic parties organised to the Red- Head farms, and up the Hunter River to the different islands. As far as concerns Newcastle it may be said that the harbour was perfectly alive on Friday owing to the series of boats which were sailing about. The Lake itself is becoming a very fashionable resort and is well worthy of a visit as the scenery in and, around is surpassingly grand. The sheet of water is I believe about   three hundred miles round.
