OUR KANGAROO POINT REPORTER. [Newspaper Article] — The Moreton Bay Courier — 11 November 1848

. OUR KANGAROO POINT REPORTER. 11 The great neglect of our reporter for some time past has led us to the conclusion that he has been bribed. It is humiliating to confess such a thing, but itt is the only way in which his conduct can be accounted for. As the young man is really useful toW, and^'posa-fesse« considerable powers of observation, we* have not dismissed him, but have transferred his «sphere of action to the Windmill at North Brisbane, where he will have an oppor- tunity of overlooking the whole town, and of working his telegraph directly opposite to our office windows. 'He bas this week sent us tlie following : REVI EW. Reason Preserved ; or, A Plot Discovered. A drama under the above title has just been published. It owes its birth to the prolific pen of the penny-a-liner attached to our establishment : and is a fair sample of the composition to be ex- pected from him. The great experience of the author has enabled him to present the public with a complete synopsis of new...

DOMESTIC INTELLIGENCE. IPSWICH. (From our Correspondent.) [Newspaper Article] — The Moreton Bay Courier — 11 November 1848

DOMESTIC INTELLIGENCE. IPSWICH. ' ,¡ fFrom our Correspondent.J ' i Wednesday, Nov. 8.-There were no less than six Magistrates on. the Bench to-day,.viz.4 Messrs'.* Simpson, Dorsey-, Balfour, Uhr, Bur- goyne, and North. The .eight cases for adjudi- cation were all on the summons list. The first was that of Cavanagh v. John Gammie, for a breach of the Hired Servants' Act-adjourned to the next court day, in consequence of sufficient time not having been allowed to the defendant for subpoenaing his witnesses. Causes second and third were settled out of court. The fourth case was John Gammie,v. John Dobbins : and the fifth was John Dobbins v. John Gammie. The investigation of these cases occu- pied the Bench for a considerable time ; but, eventually, the first of them was dismissed, and in the second the defendant was ordered to pay a fine of £1. The assault had been committed under circumstances of great aggravation, which was the cause of the mitigated penalty being inflicted. It appea...

AUDI ÄLTEREM PARTES!. To the Editor of the Moreton Bay Conner. SIR,-In a paragraph in the Sydney Morning Herald of 4th inst., headed " Moreton Bay," the correspondent gives a most glimmering idea to the Sydney folks of a meeting at South Brisbane, about a Post Office at that place, and as you are always ready to 'shew the wants of Brisbane1 in their true light, may I beg the favour of a' place m your columns m reply to that article. In the first place, if he wished to give the Herald any report at all, the least he might have done, in justice to the inhabitants, and his fellow townsmen, «as to visit the meeting, and hear the natureof the grievance, and our claims to its reformation I Without doing this, he says, " many people'are o'P opinion that better arrangements might be1 made with a letter carrier 'J'» probably there might'be a very great; many °f that »opinion who arc not in the habit of "getting letters, but certainly not one in the districtjwho is interested, or has anyiknow...
