A Stock Agent's License. TO THE EDITOR " S. S. AND S. JOURNAL." [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 14 July 1896

A Stock Agent's License. TO THE EDITOR ' S. S. AND S. JOURNAL.' Sir, — ' Another Agent ' in yours of the 3rd mentions that 'Agent ' has put the whole thing clearly before the public, but there is one phase of the matter that he has not put forward and that is the class of people who have no office and hardly a place of abode, who knock about the country as com mission agents cainug au suauiuna auu making themselves quite at home, and if they can knock out a commission ' well and good. They take a list of your stock or property whatever it may be, and the next place they go to try to make a sale, but if you want, to communicate with them to either withdraw the same or to make some fresh arrangements you do not know where to find them. I have had serious intentions of starting in the business lately where no recognised agent is, only for the class of people that I speak of knocking about. If a license was required for the same no one would be more pleased to pay it than myself. Hoping...

Ram Sales. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 14 July 1896

- - Ram Sales. I Messrs. Hill, Olark and Co., in con || junction with Messrs. Powers, Ruther I ford and Co., of Melbourne, began | their sales at their Circular Quay 1 stores at 2 o'clock sharp, on Wednes 1 day, Messrs. Goldsbrough, Mort and ~\ Co., Ltd., not having finished till lunch time, The auctioneer was Mr. J. C. Stanford, of the Melbourne firm. In opening the sales he said he might J say a few words in respect to the i sheep he had to sell. They were, I without a doubt, a very valuable [. collection of stud sheep, and he hoped \ that the buyers would bid for them without delay, so that he could get through the whole of the catalogue that night and enable him to start on the longwools at the Pyrmont stores on Thursday morning He was glad to see that the pastoralista of i New South Wales had better pros ! pects before them than they had had in I the past. With good seasons they would be able to offer better sheep each ! year. He had some magnificent stud (,. rams for sale that...

THE LAST DAY. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 14 July 1896

THE LAST DAY. The Ram Sales were concluded on Friday last, Messrs. Pitt, Son and Badgery being the last on the list. Messrs, Goldsbrough, Mort and Co., and Messrs Warden Harry Graves and Son (in conjunction with the N. Z. L. and M. A. Co., Ltd.), had a few sheep to sell, so that it was after 11 o'clock before the auctioneer, Mr. H. S. Badgery, could make a start for his firm. The attendance of buyers was small and the prices only fair, some lots of Warden Harry Graves and Son not being sold. Mr. Badgery said on opening his sales he would not waste time by speaking and describing the sheep. He was the last on the list to sell, so the buyers need not save their money for other sheep. Better judges than he had told him that the sheep he was offering for sale that day were the best in the stores. He was only speak ing as a Fat Stock Salesman. The buyers were there to spend their money, they knew what they wanted and he would not dwell on the sheep, but knock them down to the highest bid...

Ticks. TO THE EDITOR "S. S. AND S. JOURNAL." [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 14 July 1896

Ticks. TO THE EDITOR ' S. S. AND S. JOURNAL.' Sir, — The letter which appeared in your issue of the 26th inst., penned by Mr. W. W. Hassell, as ic is merely comments on mine of the 1 6th inst., I wish to reply. In reference to the landing of the bullocks in Palmerston he says — 'If they died' (seemingly doubting what I stated) ' it was from the knocking about they got when landing.' I fail to see where the knocking about took place. They were hoisted in slings over the ship's side into the water, and towed by boats about a quarter of a mile to the beach (shallow water), where they then walked ashore. The bullock he mentions that died on the beach was dead long before he got there. He was drowned, there being only one man in the boat, he not being able to pull his boat and keep the bullock's head up out of the water. He was not the only one that was cut up and sold. One hnlW.lr f.Vmfc Hip.rl about four miles out, after being dead about two hours, was brought into town and sold. Ihe h...
