We are moved to make this remark by reading the aoconnt of the collision which occurred on September 8, between the Ardenoaple and the Wemyss Castle, in''the Sonth Atlantic, in the track followed by sailing ships that voyage from. London to Australia. The Ardenoaple waa going oat to Calcutta from Qlasgow, and th® Wemyss " Castle/ was. homeward boand. They met almost end on at night in the south east trades. An error of judgment on the part, of the master of the Ardenoaple, who 1 luffed when sailing close hauled, brought the two -vessels , together. CRICKET. EAST MOONTA V. YELTA. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 26 January 1889

CUICKET. EAST MOONIA V. YMXA. As the ELadinas forfeited to the Young Australians, the only Association match played on Saturday was between East Moonta and Yalta on the ground of tbe former. The home team won the toga and deaided to bat, J, Trembath and Tonkin leading -the way. A very poor start was madq, as Tonkin played Wbenan on at 4. Arthur Trembath was out l.b.w. at 9 and Whenau bowled Hayes at 18. Luke joined. Trembath, who began to face the game ,and gave 2 chances of stamping and a long catch, all of which were declined. The score steadily mounted to 74, when both men went in successive overs. This brought Goldswortby and Blee together, the latter being bowled after a steady 4. Roberto took the vacant crease, and at once began scoring, bis hitting being clean and well placed. Harvey, Birtles and Cock each added a few, and when Cook hit his wicket, Roberts had put on 37 bj the best cricket of the day. SEED WHEAT FOR FARMERS. (By Telegraph.) Adelaide, Friday. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 26 January 1889

jSEED W-HEAT FOR FABMEBS. (By Telegraph.) Adelaide, Friday. To-day a deputation, representing a meeting .of farmers held recently at Nackarrf, waited on the Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking the Government to provide funds for supplying farmers with seed wbeat for the approaching season. The speakera depioted the misfortunes of the far mers in the bad districts and earnest ly pleaded for the practical sympathy of the Gorerameut by means of cash ad vances^/which should take the form of loans,- and not gifts. In reply the Commissioner said in plain words that he did not regard it as the duty of thq Government to provide farmers with seed wheat. The precedent would be a .bad one, and he held out very little hope ot the Ministiy apportioning any-sum for the benefit of farmers. He wouM advise them to make a public appeal for money, and as an earnest of his regret lie would promise to contribute £25 to sneh a fund if started. Several members of Parliament have issued a oiroulsr conveuin...

WALLALROO MINES JOTTINGS. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 26 January 1889

WALLALBOO MINES JOTTINGS. " WINZE." I bare been almost dead with the beat during the past week, but not quite so near sb two of oar miners named Jlarrris and Embleton. They were working in tbe bottom of tbe 125-fm level, Home Shaft, sinking a winze. It appears that just over where they were working the back of the level had been partiy worked some time ago, and had been left without being properly secured. The action loosened tbe rock and a large mass came away while tho men were in the winze, smashing the windless and covering tbe top of the winze orer, leaving only a small hole open for their case. It is said that only the fear of death enabled them to get through the aperture. As it was they had a marvellous escape. I have heard about the boy being father of the man. And it seems to be true tip here. Earlj last weekoar " jiggers" were on tbe eve of striking for higher wages. But fortunately their ul timatum resulted in an additional 6dper day, aud the jiggers still go. The requis...
