In the first place tenders were called in the ordinary course and the member concerned put in the lowest tender. CONSTRUCTION WORK ON NORTHERN PYLON, SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE Concurrently with the rapid progress on the erection of the steelwork of the main arch span, the granite-faced pylons, which will surmount the abutment towers are being carried upward. Independent pylons will rise up at each side of the abutment and the arched openings at.. deck level will provide- room for a railway track to be carried on the steel truss seen .on the left; and also a footway on the right. There will also be transverse open ings at deck level in the pylons. The latter, it will be observed, from the interior form- . work to take the :concrete backing to the masonry work, are hollow. / IRON AND STEEL PRODUCTS BOUNTY The Iron and Steel Products Bounty Bill passed the third reading stage in the House of Representatives last Friday. The discussion of the Bill centred mainly around the effect it would have in creating a monopoly for the manufacture of galvanised iron by one firm in Australia, this advantage being of particular value to New South Wales. This means that some guarantee would have to be forthcoming to other States that the price of galvanised iron would be uniform throughout the Commonwealth.
