Western _CorTespondeiiee. Dr. M'Kinney :—The ' Spring meetings of our Western Presbyteries are being held; and cheering reports of the'graeipus outpourings of the Spirit of God upon our churches, for the past Winter, are again brought up in an interesting manner for review. The reports are not of any. great or unusual excitements , of much stir or noise; but ' of gentle, refreshing outpourings of grace ; of churches led impirceptibiy, almost, to more -earnest prayer, more diligent use of the means of grace ;< of sinners, without being aware of , any unusual efforts in their behalf, brought to the foot 1 of the Cross, and constrainedto give all to the Saviour, made1 willing in the day of 'his power. For the Presbyterian Banner anil Advocate. Eevival at Mt. Carmel, Indiana. Dr. McKinney:—Dear Sir:—To encourage the expectation of God's people, to stimulate to ,prayer and effort, as_*well as to express our devout thankfulness to the Head of the Church, I wish to record what God has recently done for us at Mb. Carmel, during a communion season, which was to be my last service in connexion with them as a minister. The few accessions to the church during the last two years, with some other indications of declension ' in religious interest, led to an engagement, _sbnue two months ago, to leave for Dunlapsville. But latterly, from the inorea_'se in attendance, and seriousness of the 'congregation, together with greater earnestness at "our prayer-meetings and some cases of personal concern on the subject of religion, we felt encouraged to expect the presence of the Lord with us at our meeting. The preacshing of brother Golliday,"who assisted, was accompanied with, special power. 'On...

- -f Human Deterioration—France. It is well known that thfre are alternations in the races of men—an advance, a summit _j)f their .excellence, and a deterioration. We mi ght illustrate this in, the history of the Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, &e. Frequent, however, as are the exemplifications of the fact, and few as are the instances of a declining race being invigorated, we do not still believe that deterioratiop, after _aj growth and an acme, is a necessary law of humanity. It may be the certain result of _seclusiveness and perpetual inter-marriages in limited circles, but not a necessity of that kind which cannot be avoided. Mode of living, mental and physical employments, and mixtures of races, might be so managed, doubtless, as we think, as to avoid declension in either part of man's nature. It is not our purpose, however, to speculate on the lot of man, in this aspect, but to speak of one modern and very distinguished branch of the family of nations. The F...
