Another Great Week Off Activities Scheduled Bernhardt Hurwoods, who is author of books on vam pirism, will speak on witchcraft at Behrend. Yes, for the second week in a row there are so many things going on here at our campus, one doesn't know where to begin. Thursday night, dorm students chewed another delightful Dobbins meal to the music of Roger Salloom. On Friday and Saturday nights, everyone can drink coffee to his music. If you haven't already guessed, Roger Salloom is a member of the Coffee House Circuit and will be appearing at the Behrend Coffee House (the faculty dining area in the upstairs RUB) on October 12 and 13 starting at 9 p.m. Rolling Stone Magazine has described Roger Salloom as "a superb story teller with a good sense of rhythm and a great sense of timing, and the music is incredibly infectious." He has two albums out on the Chess label, one of which was described by the Chicago Tribune as being "one of the most important albums of the year". Salloom has ...

Help RETURN Recycle Recycling is what's "happening", according to Tom West, County Health Department official. Mr. West was one of the many visitors (including a group of Behrend College students) at an Open House recently held at RETURN, Inc. RETURN, a non-profit organization located at 1130 West 16th Street (off Raspberry) is concerned with conservation of our natural resources. In an attempt to reduce the solid waste crisis, RETURN functions as a recycling center for local residents. Solid wastes including glass, cans, aluminum, newspapers, brown bags, _corrugated boxes, and cotton rags may be brought to RETURN between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 pjn. every Wednesday and Saturday. RETURN suggests that all metal trimmings be removed from glass containers and flattened cans should also have labels removed; _~Paper and related waste materials should be bundled and folded. From the RETURN site, the material is routed to various recycling plants in the state. Your help is needed...

Keystone Is Active! One of the three commonwealth campus organizations active at Behrend is the Keystone Society, a noted service organization that sponsors a variety of extracurricular activities for the benefit of the student body. Past projects include bus trips to State College for AU-U Day and the Honors and Awards Banquet held each spring to recognize outstanding students. This year, tentative plans include a bus trip to University Park for trans¬ ferring .students to -become acquainted with their future campus and exploring the possibility of installing an ice skating rink at Behrend for use in the winter months. At recent meetings, proposals were made to eliminate a 2.5 cumulative average as a requirement for membership. Rich Metcaff, society president, said "this change in the club's constitution would make the requirements more lenient and increase the number of new members. With more members, more can be done.'' The Behrend College Keystone Society is a chapter of...

Letters to Editor A Final Thank You Dear Editor, It has recently come to my attention that a valuable member of the Behrend College administration staff has been asked to leave his position. Perhaps now is the time, as never before, to give this man the credit he is due for his tireless work, his dedication and most of all his humaneness. I remember when I first came to Behrend after two disappointing years at another college. What I was looking for was a second chance, a chance to prove myself in a college to myself. At that time, I was officially "unacceptable" as a student in the Pennsylvania State University system. 1 did not have anything to offer "on paper" to the University. Ken Goetz gave me my second chance, the chance that Iand so many other students that he has helped, needed. He did not know me before I came to his office but nevertheless the humanity in the man understood my problem and he did all he could. Now two years later, I have gained acceptability in the...

Participation or Desertion? Last Thursday's Gove Scrivenor mini-concert could have been held in a closet and btill have enough room for men's and women's restrooms. With figures still pouring in, the unofficial attendance count was listed at 31. The question which immediatel y pops up is why such a well-publicized event only drew 31 (or was it 32) people? Maybe the label "mini-concert" doesn't appeal to students-. Or possibly they believe that since the show isn't being held at the Warner Theatre, the performer can'tbe too hot. Whatever the case ib, the Student Union Board and other campus organizations arc getting pretty disgusted with _student turnout for their sponsored events. If the kids are thinking that since a small school like Behrend is bringing in these entertainers because they couldn't get booked anywhere else, they're wrong. Gove Scrivenor played two nights after the Behrend fiasco a I Duquesne University, a much larger institution which could afford to brin...

In recent years Behrend's parking space has been expanded and consequently decreased with the growing number of vehicles. Each and every one of you has a responsibility as drivers of an automobile. You are the only hopes for solving the problem which confronts us. A group of Behrend students engaged in a project concerning Behrend's traffic problem and its effects have come up with some asserting and distressing figures. A survey conducted for two days from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., each day has provided some upsetting conclusions for Discover ROTC Opportunities Since many of the students of Behrend College are here for only two years and must transfer to the Main Campus in their junior year, many of them miss out on ROTC. Most of you aren't aware of the opportunities available in the two year ROTC Commissioning program. An Air Force ROTC Admissions ...
