THE VIRGINIA EKTERPRISE VIRGINIA. MINN. W. E. HANNAFORD, Publisher. The pulse of Argentina and Chili is again normal. Red tape in the Chinese court means prolonged apron string. Little Gen. Frederick Funston is the Frederick the G'*eat of Kansas. No umpire has been able to quell the winter disturbance on the diamond. Secretary Chamberlain seems to feel that he occupies a position on an impreg nable kopje. The engineers will have to work lively to get that canal dug between Central American outbreaks. Phillips, the Chicago board of trade operator, isn't the only man who has been downed by rye. Whenever the British capture Boer laager they get beef also, making it a case of eat and drink. "Young Corbett" is already in the first stage of pugilistic decline: he lias opened a drink store in New York. Jeffries has at last crooked his elbow and addressed Fitzsimmons with the de sired "What will you have?" The year 1902 seems to have begun with a general slaughter of families by husbands ...

THE VIRGINIA ENTERPRISE VIRGINIA. MINN. W. E. HANNAFORD, Publisher. Prince Henry must come to Milwaukee to get pretzels like those at home. If Chicago is to entertain Prince Hen ry she -will have a good incentive for cleaning up. A diagram of the pursuits and sorties in South Africa would discount that of a football game. America's representatives to the coro nation of Edward VII. might wisely take along some smoked glasses. I 'IM CHILDLESS. The west is as pink as a baby's toes, The stars from their coverts peep Kissed by the white moth nods the rose The breezes are breathing, "Sleep." The shadowy bat through the maples flits The street is still and dim Aud there iu her window my neighbor sits, Singing her cradle hymn. I know those words that she gently croons— Do you wonder, forsooth, that I Should shape my mouth to the mother's tunes, The flow of a lullaby? I know, I know! In my dreams full oft Have I entered a dear, sweet land And cuddled a body, dimpled, soft, And fondled a tiny hand. Oh, God, my dwelling is bare and lone, Though riches its walls invest Take all—and give for my very own A watch o'er a wee one's rest, Or show, I pray, to my aching eyes Why thou by thy will has wrought That my heart should brim with its lullabies, My arms hold naught, hold naught! —VVOman's Home Companion. RATING, say the men who deal in jSS skates and skating shoes, tippets and other things which skaters re quire, has taken a decided upward turn in the last few years. Skates were never before so cheap. Fifteen years ago the liny who had a pair of "club" skates, which fastened with the magic clamp and had none of the heartbreaks of heel plates and with ins toe straps, was looked upon veneration and awe by his comrades. The skates came high and ii iys had most of the to content themselves with look- at them through the stores. Now Avinuiws dealers do not recommend skates to be full of the the strap skate banished and lie is long since the "full club" skate can bought for 23 cents the a pair. Of course the quarter tempered steel, but they have the pa'tent attachments for heel and toe mikI that satisfies the average small Ley. This year the sporting goods houses are film wing a more complete line of so-called racing skates than ever before, says the Chii'-ago Chronicle. Year after year ...
