Rcbal Wobld : - Tu answer to ' 'tirpe Grower I would say, that hav ing cut timber at all seasons of the year, and noted the results' with an eye to the end proposed, viz: to ascertain its effects upon its durability, or rapid decay I bare, to ray. entire satisfaction, found a vast difference. For example, you may cut pignut or scaly bark hick ory in winter or early spring, and make up Into ax helves, and worms will cat them up; but cut the same timber say from the first of July aud as lonir as the 'bark continues tu peel, aud they will make good lasting rails for fences. In proof, 1 have a windlass and frame for same, over a well on my farm, made of pig-nut hlckorv, put there twelve years ago: sound to-day; cut in July, 1856. The Emporia News. Friday t t X May 21. I860. VTA-NTED MORE TREES. . Forest culture moat, tooner of later, demand "both State and national legis lation. The rapid destruction of woodlands in this country cau but ulti mately lead to many of the untoward results wbich have marked the pursuit of a similar course in Europe. So dis astrous hare they proved in France, that iu I860 the Government appropiat ed 10,000,000 frauca, to be expended at the rate of 1.000.000 francs per rear, in executing or aiding in the replanting of woods. I his sum, it was computed, would secure the creation of new for ests to the extent of two hundred and fifty thousand acres. The work of re planting has been going on ever since. A few years ago the Isere, Drome, Ariege, the Upper and Lower Pyrenees, the Lozere, Ardenbes, the Vosgea, and other departments of France were al most depopulated because the soil was rendered unproductive by the destruc tion of the wood lands, which were nature's safeguards.
