WEDNESDAY MORNING, MARCH 20, 1850 Our Town C.'onnrll. [Newspaper Article] — Daily Alta California — 20 March 1850

WEDNESDAY MORNING, MARCH 20, 1850 Our Town C.'onnrll. The public of San Francisco must ho satisfied— nay, absolutely sickened with lIM miserable decrepit sjstom of municipal management in effect at the present time, and with the excesses find enormities practiced by thoso of our chief dignitaries who so loudly prate and protest their incorruptiblencss, Ml under tho guise of sound law. Such ft thing as sound law docs not exist among us. | find hence it, is that while San Francisco has adranced with unexampled might in growth find | importance, her condition in point of government has become every day more and more embarrassed. It lias been thus from tho days of Commodore Stockton, who must bo regarded as tho lawgiver of yfmcnco-Ciilifornia, and upon no occasion einco tho hoisting of the flag, to our recollection, have wo presumed to confront a question relativo to tho laws in forco requiring information on a single legal point. Men of great erudition have unhesitatingly plunged into ...

Tlie Srnatr and Oursrlrra. [Newspaper Article] — Daily Alta California — 20 March 1850

Tlie Srnatr and Oursrlrra. The Stockton Times of Saturday last has the following just rebuke of tlie 60WM pursued by the Senate of California towards this paper: The Senate vs. the Press. — Wo observe from an article in the last number of the Weekly Alta California, that the reporters of that newspaper still lie under tho ban of the Senate — that they are still excluded from the floor of the California Senate. The head and front of their offending appears simply to havo been that our contemporary expressed an opinion upon certain public acts of the Legislative body. When honorable gentlemen arc so tlushod with power that they will not allow a newspaper to inquire into their public acts, wo vote for their removal forthwith, Tor we think that this intemperato and undignified proceeding ought to bo resented not only by the press but also by tho entire peoplo of this community. If the Senatorial body had been conscious of doing well, they might have passed by iv alienee what strictures ...
