Mr. Beckst led off by shewing that while dancing was not only an innocent and harmless recreation, it was a pleasur able recreation leading one's thoughts sway from life's cares and toils. Too many people were led away into confound ing the abuse with the use of dancing and many other health-giyinji games and exercises. The Edwards-Walker Fund. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 26 August 1893

The Edwards-'WaUserFuad. It is to be regretted that the move ment to practically sympathise with the widows and children of the late Messrs. Thomas Edwards and Joseph Walker was not originated in a system atic manner. Even in this matter, ?where there could possibly be no differ ence of opinion or unwillincness on the part of anyone to assist, it would ap pear that Nowra has sustained unmis taketibly its reputation for bungling. The general feeling, after the interment of the bodies, was that a general public movement should be mode to raise funds for the relief of those so suddenly bereaved of their bread-winners. There were no two opinions about this, and it was soon known also, especially in the town, that the widows and children of the deceased were in new! of assistance. Instead of waiting until a public meet ing could bo held, lists were issued, it iu s;uu uii ituiiHLi oe tno .nowra council, on the day of the funeral, and this, amidst all that was suggested as to the erection ...

Hours of Childhood. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 26 August 1893

Sours of Childhood. Houn of childhood, sweet to many, Gambolling by their cottage home ; Striving hard to gain affection, Onward through the world to roam. Mother's placid face revealing Iiovo in every look and word ; Shewing to lior children truly That their every woe she heard. Gladsome hearts with smiling faces, Shewing naught but pleasant hours ; Never dreaming in the future How tbe sunshine often lowers. How the days glide swiftly by, Like the seasons of the year ; First the autumn, then the winter, Bringing sunshine with a tear. What a lesson here is taught us, Though the context we can't see, That the sweetest hours of ehildhood Were the times when we were free. And the world with all its pleasure With its sorrow and its care, Still those happy hours of childhood Often times our hearts ensnare. Thus to reason here we ponder, Thinking of the time long past, And the sweetest hours of childhood Which a ray of gladness cast. Milton, N.S-W, John Raiksford.

Commercial. [Newspaper Article] — The Shoalhaven News and South Coast Districts Advertiser — 26 August 1893

Commercial. The South Coast and West Camden Co operative Company in reporting butter very scarce and in good demand, under date 19th instant, says : — A rise in values might have taken place, for the last few days, but for the fact that best ' Creamery ' id ijuuluu ir'jm tueiuuurne at yu to oa per lb., and market dull at those prices; even at Is per lb. (present values) we expect large importations from Victoria and New Zealand. If the dairy farmers would give this matter of values fair consideration, they would certainly allow their agents to use their own judgment in the sale of the produce consigned to them. But tho cus tom -of the trade lias assumed this posi tion : That every keg must be Bold at the top price, which means that the whole market value must' be kept down to clear the last keg out at top price.
