I Become Important—By Coulson Kernaban "One morning a few weeks after the publication of my book, and when the boom was at its height, I took up The Times, and having ascertained that it oontained no " Reviews," commenced- languidly taming the pages of general news. Suddenly I gave a start, and clutching excitedly at the paper, flushed at the forehead, with staring eyes that had scarcely looked at one line before they had suatohed the eense of the next, and leaping on, had raced, lightning like, down the columns—two of which frisked with' my name- A. prominent member of the House of Commons had asked the Home Secretary if his atten tion had been called to some appalling statistics given iu a volume: dealing with certain social questions of the highest importance to. public morality. An evasive and! unsatisfactory reply called forth a storm of dissent. I had hardly finished before a telegram was brought to me, I found it was from the editor of -7-...
