Gympie July Returns. (Gympie Times.) [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 17 August 1892

Gympie July Returns. "(<3'-ympie Times.) The crushings, yields and dividends for July as given below show a considerable fall ing off as compared with the preceding six months of the vear, although a comparison with the corresponding month of last year ex hibits a decided increase in crushings and yields for July fin'« year, and a decrease in calls aud dividends, the difference being as follows: -Increase in stone crushed, 485 tons 6 cwt; ingold, 2027oz 14dwt 18gr; decrease in calls, £2686 5s; decaease in dividends, £6566 13»4d. It has however to be borne in mind that in July, 1891, the Gympie Great Eastern declared a dividend of Is per share equal to £10,500, which had been accumulat ing from previous crushings, and this fact accounts for the swelling of the returns in this respect for that month. During the pa-t month nothing of par ticular note in regard to developments has taken place, with the exception of the picking up of the reef in the No. 1 North Oreat New Zeala...

Queensland Smelting Com pany* The fourth ordinary general meeting of the shareholders in the Queensland Smelting Company was held at London on June 28th, atCann on-street Hotel, wider the presidency of Mr John Nickisson (the chairman} The Secretary, Mr Charles C. Rawson), having read the notice convening the meet ing, The Chairman said: It would very natu ?ally have been moreagreeahle to occupy ing, as I do for the first time, by the favor of my colleagues, this position as chairman of the company, if I could have met you declared to you a handsome dividend. That however, is no fault of ours as most of those who are here present know. I think I shall show you, if you will give me your patience ' for a very abort time, that our balance-sheet disclosing, as it does, a debit balance of some £10,000-not £79,000 as stated in one of the j papers yesterday-is not only dissapointing , or disheartening, but I think I can prove to j you that it is encouraging and satisfactory ! in every way. ...

Narrow Legislation. [Newspaper Article] — The North Queensland Register — 17 August 1892

Harrow Legislation. The deputation to Mir See, Minister for Mines for New South Wales asking that the registered offices of all mining companies carrying on business in that colony shall be within its confines, have brought to ahead an old grievance. In the early days most of the Broken Hill companies were reg stored in Sydney, bat the Great Proprietary was always located in Melbourne. In the silver boom the bulk of Hie speculators in shares were Melbourne or Adelaide men, and to facilitate transfer the registered offices were naturally transferred to where the majority of the shareholders resided. This incensed the Sydney people, however, and hence Mr See's approval of the proposed retaliatory legislation. ' Hie trouble is really unworthy of national notice, and if the Bill is carried the registered office in Sydney will be only a form, and branch registers will be opened in Melbourne. For the sake of having 20 men employed in Sydney commercial convenience is to be set aside, and n...
