Two yory important questions wei-o dis cussed at tlio Eulniain Borougli Council mooting on last week. Tho first was n proposal by Alderman Buchanan to get a Building Act suitablo for tho Borough passed through Parlinmont. ? fc'omo few issues ngo wo referred to this matter, and wo nro now glad to sco tho proposal taken up in tho Council and tho almost unanimous support accorded it. Aldennan Burns was tho only speakor who raised his Yoico against tho proposal, and hodosired .it to ho con fined to tho footpaths an-\a few minor items. Those could ho managod without a bill, tho by-laws .could bo inado to or possibly do provido for such things. Current Items. Some ? rathor startling news conies fc» us in ; yesterday' s_ irwjW .one. of torn-- City coiitpinpoiutiosl NV'o are told therein that ' thoro is reason' to fear that wo shall not get the promised tramway in Balmain after all, as tho Mayor has inserted in tho Bill, a elauso which would effectually prohibit any public company from undertaking the work. This remark' seems to us somowliat ln'ematuro and must we think bo taken cum graito salis. Tlio proposed Trainway Bill is at present only a proposetl Tramway Bill and as far as we aro aware will be (subjected to any such alterations as may hereafter be considered dosirablo ; . and it is highly improbable, whatever suggestions may have been' made in the interests of tho Borough, that the Mayor will insist on any conditions jlikely ''-to interfere with tho carrying out of a, scheme, fraught as it is with such importance to BaGhaiii and everything connected with it.
