Tumut: The Federal Capital. VISIT OF THE PRIME MINISTER1 AND MINISTER FOR HOME AFFAIRS. On Friday at1 noon Mr.. Alfred, Deakin (Federal Prime A^inister^ arrived . by train from Melbourne to join Sir John Forrest in his inspection of the sites in this district for which claims are ad vanced to the Federal Capital final selection. Sir John was away at Wyangle aBd Red-Hill, inspecting the sites having a higher altitude than either Gadara or Lacmalac. The Minister for Home.Affairs is credited with uttering the observation that a site below 1500 feet of the sea level . will be required, and to meet his views the Wyangle and Red Hill localities have been picked out as alternatives to Gadara and Lacmalac, which fall short of this altitude. Mr. Deakin was taken to Tabletop, a plateau recom mended" by Mr. F. Iiinred for con sideration as an adjunct to Gadara and commanding the most comprehensive view of the country for many miles. Tuniut Hospital. The regular monthly meeting of the committee of the Tumut Cottage Hob pital was held at Mr. Emanuel's office on Thursday night last. Present: Messrs. N. Emanuel (President), J. Weeden (secretary), J. Blakeney, H. McNamara, J. D. Walker, S. Groves, J. Learmont, R. Donaldson and -Rov. T. E. Owens-Mell. Th<* minutes of the previous meet ing were read and confirmed. A letter, was read from Matron Thomas re the appointment of a pro bationer.—The Secretary was em powered to engage a probationer as per Miss Thomas'letter. A motion was passed, agreeing to tenders being called for the supply of 20 cords of firewood. Accounts aggregating £4010s 4d were passed for payment. .
