MEETING OF TREE SELECTORS. [Newspaper Article] — The Manaro Mercury, and Cooma and Bombala Advertiser — 26 June 1869

MEETING OF FREE SELECTORS. Pursuant to advertisement a meeting of the free selectors of this district was held at the Royal Hotel on the afternoon of Monday last, Mr. J. Litchfield in the chair. There was a large attend- ance, in fact more numerous than we have seen at any meeting of the body in Cooma for years past, from which it may tie inferred that the object for which the meeting was called is considered a very   important one. The greatest unanimity prevailed   at the meeting, and we must in justice to the free selectors add that the language of each speaker was   mild and temperate, there being a total absence of that bitter recrimination invariably indulged in at such meetings. Taking into consideration the object the meeting had in view we cannot do other-   wise— and we think all will agree with us, whether they be conditional purchasers or Crown tenants —     than congratulate the free selectors...

THE TRAVELLING SHEEP QUESTION. [Newspaper Article] — The Manaro Mercury, and Cooma and Bombala Advertiser — 3 July 1869

THE TRAVELLING SHEEP QUESTION. The Pastoral Times observes :—*? For some time past the runholdere of Riverina have been per plexed with the travelling sheep question. Sheep starved Out of their natural pasturage have been driven recklessly about here in Bearcb of food. Latee quantities of them have nerialied while thus wandering, consequently great losses- have been' ex- perienced by those settlers who had recourse to this extremity, Itta argued that there should be noj sympathy for them, as they should not have kept more sheep than the runs would carry, and ho doubt herein there is much force. Too many of the Crown tenants have had of late to fight very hard, but this could not justify them in trespassing On; the Tented lands of those stookowners whose runs have a public way through them. However, the la?t, few seasons have been exceptional in their severity; we hope that we shall now have abund ance of grasi and water for feeding our cattle and sheep, end this is the time to apply...

In order to ascertain the state of preservation in. which these remains were— with the vjetrof taking suitable steps for transferring' them to HaBlem'a Creek, many small pits were sunk in different parta of the ground, and it was found that in all cases where the .interment had taken place in an ordinary grave, the remains had' entirely disappeared — not even a particle of bone of the smallest kind could be discovered — and that therefore *o far us respected the vast majority of the bodies deposit...
