DEATH OF MR. FRED GORDON. [Newspaper Article] — Townsville Daily Bulletin — 18 July 1907

DEATH OF MR. FRED GORDON. Another of the very old residents of Townsville died on Wednesday morn- ing in the person of Mr. Fred Gordon, of "Glenroy," at the age of 72 years. There was probably no better known man in the city than deceased, though of late he had not taken such a pro- minent part in public matters as he had done In previous years. In Jan- uary, 1906, one of deceased's sons, Clarence, died; in February of the present year Mrs. Fred Gordon was numbered with the great majority, and these losses naturally deeply af- fected deceased, who felt the weight of years and the domestic bereave- ments to which he had been subjected to such an extent that of late it was very evident that his days were num- bered. So it happened, for he passed quietly away into the unknown land at an early hour on Wednesday morn- ing. He leaves three daughters and two sons. Deceased was an old resi- dent of Townsville as long as twenty years ago, and as showing his social and commercial standing and...

ROSS RIVER WEIR. WARNING TO THE COUNCIL. (By Telegraph.) BRISBANE, July 17. It is probable that the Treasury De- partment will address a letter to the Townsville City Council informing them that no money can be given by the Government towards the construc- tion of the weir. The opinion seems to be that the Council are trying to force the hands of the Government, and the communication is to be sent as a warning.

Passengers from the west report that along the railway line between Hugh- enden and Richmond a considerable number of dead sheep are to be found, while others appeared to be so weak that they were scarcely able to walk. The Bulletin. PUBLISHED DAILY. THURSDAY, JULY 18, 1907. ETHERIDGE RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION. [Newspaper Article] — Townsville Daily Bulletin — 18 July 1907

The Bulletin. PUBLISHED DAILY. THURSDAY, JULY 18, 1907. ETHERIDGE RAILWAY CON- STRUCTION. Etheridge goldfield residents have lately been a good deal occupied by discussions on the comparative merits of rival routes for the railway line from Almaden at its inland end. On this question, of course, only persons with intimate local knowledge can form a first-hand opinion of any value. Judging from the arguments on either side published in the local newspaper, the "Mining News," the Northern   route offers the most advantages to the whole of the goldfield. That route is     also the most direct for the inevitable extension from the termimis of the authorised line to Croydon. The con- troversy ensures that the route of the railway will be that which is likely to give the greatest advantage to the goldfield, for the decision lies with men whose only object is traffic, and the volume of this depends on the effect of the railway in stimulating mining en...

^S ' THE ACin LINE ' Most people In cities live just on the line of acid surplus, and pass ovei the border every few days. A State dinner, a day of extra mental activity or emotional excitement, and over the boundary they go. A chill, a damp day Impeding the surface eliminations, or a persisting constitutional tendency —and over the add line they drop. The proof Is in the prevalence of the acid diathesis, shown In rheumatism, neuralgia, and gout Rheumatism Is undoubtedly caused by germ ferment In. the Intestinal tract, precisely at the point where the blood takes up Its serum albumen from the peptone. Ml rrobes planted there sour the serum. It. Is offered to the blood as an acid to, live, with heroic efforts parting with its own alkalinity to effect it, tho blood seeks in vain to neutralize this acid, the Impoverished blood can not prevail against the nlcrobe fer ment but Is Itself rendered acid. Add reaction Is always shown in the blood of Rheumatics. To these people we suggest the...
