OUR POCKETS UNDER FEDERATION. [Newspaper Article] — The Kiama Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 10 June 1899

OUR POCKETS UNDER FEDERATION. By Edward Puisford, M.L.C. There are some amusing individuals in the community who affect to believe that after these colonies have entered into partnership we shall not reignire pockets at-all, as we shall have nothing to put into them. Let us remember that never since the world began has any great and noble movement been proposed without a clamour against it being raised, andi that no great development has ever taken place of which it had not beforehand been said that it meant disaster. It is very cheering to lind that the result of great forward movements, of steps that have raised men politically and mornally, have invariably proved them selves attractive from the mere monetary aspect; indeed, all the laws of Nature would be turned upside down if it were not so, and for the ordinary citizen it ought to be enough to know that because it is right for Australians to federate with Austra lians, therefore it must "pay.'' lStrnAiie I11leecl, anll inlion11...
