IMAC Stbutoe COINCIDENCE -At the Liver pool coroner's court an inquest was held on the body oi > woman named Elisabeth Fleming, who, on a prerious morning was carrying her grandchild down stain, when her foot slipped, and she fell heavily-to the ' bottom of the stain. Although the child escaped any serious injury tbe poor woman nes so injured that she died the same evening. One singular feature in connection with this case is this. In this early part of tbe preceding week an inqueat was held on the oody of another woman named Elizabeth Fleming, who resided in a different part of the town. She, too, was carrying ber grandchild down stairs when she stumbled and fell down to the bottom of the flight. In this case tbe child also escaped any serious hurt, but the women died on tbe evening of the day when the accident took places Tbe & M. Herald states that Messrs. Bichardain and Wrench have sold tbe Lyod Biver stations, Cook district, North Queensland, with 8000 sheep, at 10s....

Fined 10s., or 43 bourn in the lockup. Another charge was preferred against the prisoner for using obscene language in the public streets. From the evidence of the lockup-keeper it ap peared tbe prisoner was Buffering from delirium tremens during the time he was custody. Mi1- Gladstone's amendment on the He form Bill was carried on the 10th ult., against the Government, by a large majority. The Chancellor of the Exchequer an Bounced that the Government would not resign in consequence of this defeat, but would accept the amendment. The Liberals are jubilant over this success. The Paris Exhibition promises to be very successful. The attempted revolution in Spain has failed. The King of Greece is to London. ? The Cretans have again defeated the Turks. . A telegram was received from Mr. Fitzgerald who was elected for Hockhnmp ton yesterday. 'He says that the electors I in the Kennedy district positively refuse to allow him to accept the seat for Rock-*| hampton. He regrets, therefore, that he is necessitated to resign.
