The meeting was a great suc cess, both socially and financially, nearly £100 profit being shown. No less then forty-two horses were nominated, and most of them took part. In regard to the extraordinary de mand for increased rentals imposed at the Land Court in Charleville the other day, It may be worth while quoting what some o£ the stations here to pay, owing to those retro spective clauses of the Act, being Im posed to the fullest extent. Take Bierbank station, for instance. From the owners of this property no less than £12,000 was demanded, although evidence was tendered proving that £80,000 had been expended in improve ments during the last 15 years. No doubt the authors of these clauses in the Act consider the demand reason Able and just, but it would he ex tremely difficult to convince anybody else that they are. The retrospective rents on Milo and North Comongin stations were fixed at £9000 in both cases.
