COCOANUT. Jan. 19, 1889. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 23 January 1889

eoco4ifUT. dan. 19, 1889. The splendid fall of ram that occurred on the 1st has entirely changed the aspect of agricultural affairs. Experience how ever teaches us that all oar expectations are not likely to be realised and shall profit by past failures. Though the old year has an unbeaten record for drought and in many other respects, we can come to no other conclusion than it might have been far worge, for after seeing the state of the props in the potfh .o^r disappoint ment is not so great or loss so heavy as theirB, and we ought to feel thankful. Hope though deferred so long is again in the ascendant, for people say. Surely the Btock of bad season is well nigh exhausted, and a change for the better is not far dis tant. It" is hoped it will come true for on that iqan/ sre ploughing and preparing to put in another prop, apd have guite for given the dreadful past.- The obly thing that is thriving just now is the fly tribe which is countless in numbers. A small party are making trac...

CO. , QUEENS LAND.-The manager of this mine' reports under date, January 1, as follows :-" ! have no special remarks to make respect ing the appearances or value of your mine. Although we meet with changes they do not affect as very materially, in .the quality or quantity of stone reduced. My former remarks regarding the divergence of the auriferous matrix to the south anil? east is being borne out daily by facts. Sinking by the foot-wall has been suspen ded, and a winze is being snnk In advance towards the south-east ground: referred! to, but not far enongh 'east to pick up the extreme eastern or hanging wall. Thfe reason of this will be duly explainedr?in the course of this report. Four feet has been sunk in the winze which produce^ crashing material of fair payable quality. Occasionally we meet with heavy jdenBe i mineral, principally iron pyrites showing very course gold. This bears out my former statements that a large amount of stone is left ...

SOME OF THE SILYEETOJCT COPPER MIKES. (BY OCB SPECIAL BEPOBIEB.) GREEN'S PLAINS. Jan. 19, 1889. [Newspaper Article] — The Kadina and Wallaroo Times — 23 January 1889

GREEN'S PLAINS. Jan. 19, 1889. Harvest may now be said to be over as far as the district is concerned, and the effect on the farmers is various. Some have done fairly well; others well enough to try again, while others are so disgusted that they are clearing oat, determined to try their fortunes else where. We are banquettiug and sociaiing them as fast as we can to encourage them to go, Even our quiet friends at Copper Hill ventured the other night to socialize Mr Jonathan Roberta, Jun.. who is leaving the district. Several farmers are now busy ploughing, driven to it by the fact that they have no water carting to do.
